The Golden State Warriors have the best defense in the league and Draymond Green is leading the charge. Is it enough for him to secure another Defensive Player of the Year trophy?

Draymond Green has long been recognized as the best defender on the Golden State Warriors but will he earn another DPOY award?

Draymond is averaging 7.9 rebounds and 7.3 assists, the same as his 2017 DPOY campaign. He has been playing with renewed vigor and aggressiveness this year. Stating that his kids are the motivation, the Warriors’ #1 ranked defense is one of the main factors in their much-improved record this year.

Draymond said in an ESPN Interview:

"“My son is getting older, my oldest daughter, she’s seven now,” Draymond continued. They kind of get on my ass if we lose, so that’s motivation. And I think for me, also, I’ve been s**** the last couple of years, so my kids don’t really understand how good I am. And I want them to see how good I am so that they’ll have an understanding. So that is the motivation for me.”"

Draymond is in his 10th NBA season and is currently leading the 2021-22 NBA DPOY Odds

At +150 with Rudy Gobert second at +240 as of today. Even though Giannis Antetokounmpo has been sneaking up slowly over the last week Draymond is still the clear frontrunner.

Is he good enough to make his 4th All-Star Team this year? He has long been a vocal leader for the Warriors. His field goal percentage is also at a career-high, yet his free throw percentage is a career-low at a measly 60%, down almost 20% from 79.5% last year.

It’s too early to decide who will win the award currently, with Klay Thompson looking to return soon from his injury it should only help boost his Draymond’s case. He is the best defender on the best defensive team so far this year.

He is often referred to as the heart and soul of the Golden State Warriors’ defense. We can only wait and see what the rest of this season has to offer.
