Golden State Warriors should consider signing Jamal Crawford

The rumblings have been made by Twitter, but does signing Jamal Crawford actually make sense? For the Warriors, it certainly doesn’t if he’s going to be a long-term addition; however, I see no problem with the consideration in the short-term future.

Crawford was never an elite defender. He was always just a go-to bucket for a team, and with players like Moses Moody capable of playing with the second unit and taking on the more challenging player, that’s all Crawford would be asked to do.

Crawford last played in the NBA in the 2019-2020 season, appearing in just 1 game with the Nets. Prior to that one game, he spent time with the Suns, competing in 64 games the season before. He averaged 7.9 points per game.

The issue with Crawford is his value relied on him scoring at a high level, and towards the later part of his career, he wasn’t doing that, shooting under 40% from the field. The 41-year-old Crawford does have a 14.6 career average, so the resume is there.

With Poole, Lee and Wiggins out, the Warriors are down major scoring threats. If they want a score-first guard, Crawford is available. It makes sense for now given who the Warriors must proceed in the season without.
