December 30: Warriors versus Nuggets

Stephen Curry versus Nikola Jokic is the MVP battle that few are truly recognizing. Jokic is on pace to post the highest Player Efficiency Rating of all-time while his Denver Nuggets look to remain in the playoff picture prior to the return of Jamal Murray.

As stated, Jokic has been special this season. He’s averaging 25.8 points, 13.2 rebounds and 7.3 assists on an otherworldly 66.3 percent true shooting.

If you are wondering, only six players in league history have recorded 25+ points on above 65 percent true shooting. This exclusive club includes Curry — who is one of just two players to average 30+ points on that absurd efficiency (Adrian Dantley is the other). Another former Warrior, Kevin Durant, is in the 25+ point, 65+ percent TS club, as well.

Most people have Curry firmly in first place for the MVP run, meaning he might earn revenge on Jokic who snatched the award from him last season.

The battle for the top seed might mean more for Curry and the Warriors. They play the Nuggets back-to-back to conclude 2021, with their second matchup coming on Dec. 30. The Warriors will want to take care of business and add two wins against a lesser team to end the year.

Yet, it is never easy to beat the same team twice in a row. It does not get any easier when you toss in some healthy competition for the league’s biggest individual award.
