Golden State Warriors: 3 Games that will threaten top seed
By Tony Pesta
Christmas day against Phoenix
The Phoenix Suns were last season’s Cinderalla story — but even after the clock has struck midnight, the Suns remain title contenders.
The reigning Western Conference champions are back gunning for the best record in the NBA and are the only team truly threatening to take the top spot away from the Golden State Warriors. Fittingly, they face off on Christmas Day.
Less-fittingly is the current surge in COVID-19 cases among NBA players.
The Dubs have three players in health and safety protocols, Andrew Wiggins, Jordan Poole and Damion Lee.
Phoenix, on the other hand, has zero players sidelined due to COVID-19.
At best, we will see the Warriors take on a near-full strength Suns without two of their most important starters.
Nevertheless, Christmas Day is an opportunity for the Dubs to take a 2-1 series lead on the Suns this season. This advantage could prove to be useful down the stretch of the season if Phoenix and Golden State remain deadlocked for the top seed.
