Golden State Warriors v Phoenix Suns: Two Key Stats

1. Curry rids nightmares of Christmas past

It’s fair to say that Christmas Day games had never been nice to the two-time MVP, with Curry’s previous high being 19 points. Although it wasn’t his most efficient night, he understood the importance of having to carry a massive load offensively.

His 33 points, easily a team high, included five three-pointers. It means that Curry is now just one made three away from becoming the first player to 3000 threes in NBA history.

2. Other contributions

Although Curry was excellent, it wasn’t the dominant display that would singlehandedly carry the Warriors to victory, as was the case against Memphis.

It meant Golden State needed other scoring avenues to enable victory. Porter Jr. sealed the game with 13 of his 19 points in the fourth, while the other fill-in starter, Payton II, finished with 14. Combined with Kuminga’s 12 and Bjelica’s ten, that quartet totaled an extremely important, game-winning 55 points together.
