Why the Warriors may want to sell high?
Andrew Wiggins has excelled as a member of the Golden State Warriors.
Sure, the Warriors have an ultra-high ceiling as it is, but Wiggins is also helped by the Dubs culture and who he is playing alongside. Wiggins’ efficiency during the 2019-2020 Covid-19-stricken season, his first in the Bay Area, was far from what it is now.
He was under 46% from the field during those mere 12 games. He’s had two career years with the Warriors. Well, what’s to say that Ben Simmons couldn’t find similar success alongside Draymond Green and Stephen Curry.
Wiggins has proven to be a perfect fit for the system, but it shouldn’t be crazy to think an available player like Simmons doesn’t help this team in many different ways.
With Wiggins set to make over $31 million each of these last two seasons, his production isn’t quite worth his price. There’s no telling what Simmons or any player could produce like, but there could be a short same for the Warriors to capitalize on Wiggins’ play.
The only important target to consider is Simmons, who could be a DPOY candidate. Adding a player like that would always be a positive, and getting off a contract that’s been difficult to move could create the perfect storm for the Warriors.
What Simmons brings versus what Wiggins’ contract limits makes him a player that could be traded. However, given his high-level play, the Warriors wouldn’t have to attach multiple draft picks which would make a deal plausible.
