It is only right, Klay Thompson will (hopefully) make his grand return to basketball as the Golden State Warriors prepare for yet another NBA Finals preview against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Joking, of course.

But the decision to have Thompson debut in front of a rowdy Warriors crowd as they take on an old, yet rejuvenated foe is kind of poetry, isn’t it?

The Warriors and Cavs began their descent into the lottery at roughly the same time after battling each other in four of five finals. Just as they fell from contention, both franchises are now back at the forefront with Golden State holding the best record in the NBA and Cleveland boasting one of the brightest young cores in basketball.

Klay Thompson making his season debut for the Golden State Warriors next week against the Cleveland Cavaliers would be perfect.

Golden State has a bit of young talent bubbling under the surface as well, with Jonathan Kuminga flashing immense upside and names like Moses Moody, James Wiseman and Jordan Poole all showing promise.

However, we all know why we will be tuning into this game. Thompson’s return is something we’ve all been waiting long enough for and it could not come at a better time.

For starters, it was always going to be better if Klay made his debut in front of his home crowd. So, we can check that box off with this one.

Second, adding a bit of flavor in the form of a previous nemesis that is experiencing a similar rebirth is the type of narrative that keeps fans invested in basketball. The Cavs are a fun team with a future All-Star caliber trio of their own in Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen and Darius Garland.

The Dubs will have the chance to formerly welcome this new Cavaliers team to the rivalry. Will they ever meet again in the finals? It is hard to say and we are likely a few years away from Cleveland being anywhere near that level of competition.

Yet, the return of the Splash Brothers is the perfect way to kick off another chapter in the Cavs/Warriors feud.

Next. Two options for final two-way spot. dark
