The Golden State Warriors unselfishness is absolutely mind-blowing
The Golden State Warriors took down yet another top title contender on Monday.
While the Miami Heat were down star center Bam Adebayo and elite sharpshooter Duncan Robinson, key players like Kyle Lowry, Jimmy Butler and Tyler Herro all took to the Chase Center in hopes of pulling off the upset.
The Warriors defeated the Heat on Monday night, and they did so because of their unselfishness. It’s been a feature of this veteran team all season.
The Warriors entered as double-digit favorites, and they justified the margin being that high with a 115-108 victory.
Golden State had 39 assists on 45 made field goals. For reference, that was tied for the most of their season. In the Dubs’ 21 games in which they’ve hit at least 40 shots from the field, they’ve assisted at least half of them.
Draymond Green returned to action and gave a huge boost to Golden State. He contributed 13 of those 39 assists. 10 more of them were from Stephen Curry, who had more assists than points, scoring just 9.
The two stars combined for 23 of the 39 assists. That’s leadership at its finest.
The Warriors don’t quite lead the league in assists, currently sitting at just 28.1 per game. The San Antonio Spurs, another extremely well-coached franchise, lead the league, dishing out 28.5 per game.
Golden State can thank its unselfishness as one of the key reasons why they’ve managed the league’s best record through almost half of the season.
Despite losing Jordan Poole, Andrew Wiggins, and Draymond Green to the league health and safety protocols for some time, they’ve managed to keep their record at the top of the league.
That’s partially because of their veteran group on the second unit that understands this system and how to get the most out of it.
Players like Otto Porter Jr. are stepping up and playing smart basketball. Porter Jr. is a player that’s buying into the system, having the highest percentage of his career of two-point field goals assisted on.
While it’s more than just him, the Warriors system has been rocking. Curry has the most to do with the success of the season, and his unselfishness is one reason why they’ve been consistently one of the best offenses in the NBA.
