Achilles History in NBA

An Achilles tear for athletes can mean the nail in the coffin for their careers. Kobe Bryant never fully recovered, Chauncey Billups was sent to an early retirement, and even Rudy Gay lost a step in his game.

On the other hand, more recently we have seen the success some players have had coming back from the injury. Kevin Durant has returned to MVP form after returning from a torn achilles. More historically, Dominique Wilkins was able to overcome the injury as well. A player like Thompson who can rely heavily on his shooting and doesn’t rely on his explosiveness as an athlete bodes well for him.

Thompson sure has some things to prove in his return, after being snubbed from the NBA all-75 list. Thompson and many other teammates voiced their opinion on the matter, in fact it was the most vocal I have ever heard Klay regarding an award. Now it will be interesting to see Klay’s defensive ability coming back from this injury.

The Dubs like to use Thompson on opposing teams best guards. The difference now is that Steph Curry is much better defensively and the team as a whole ranks tops in the NBA for defense.

In what should be a very emotional night at Chase Center, let’s relive some of my personal favorite Klay Thompson moments.
