Golden State Warriors don’t need much from James Wiseman

Making your NBA debut on a dormant dynasty in the midst of a rebirth is daunting for anyone. It does not seem like starting your sophomore season on that same team that is resurging into title contention would relieve the pressure.

Yet, James Wiseman should feel drastically different this year.

The key is simple. The Warriors are already playing at an elite level. They do not need anything from him. He is the finishing touch, the cherry on top, nothing more.

Wiseman can have a complete clunker of a season and while it will be met with criticism, it will not mean doomsday for anyone other than maybe himself.

Golden State has deduced Wiseman’s role to the two keys above. Protect the rim on one end, finish at the other. Two things the uber-athletic seven-footer should be able to excel at.

With expectations lowered, Wiseman has nothing holding him back. He has the power to elevate the Warriors’ ceiling with little potential to derail their season if he does not perform. There is no pressure — it’s just time to perform.
