The Warriors have players in nearly every award race this season
Warriors player for Defensive Player of the Year: Draymond Green
Draymond Green is anchoring the league’s best defense while averaging 7.9 points, 7.4 assists, 7.6 rebounds, 1.4 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game.
Draymond’s defensive numbers are very solid, but they aren’t the only reason he is in consideration for the award. It is his versatility that makes him so impactful, his ability to guard every position and to be on the court no matter if the opposing team is going big or small.
When comparing some of the other candidates like Rudy Gobert and Alex Caruso, you simply can’t say the same. Sure, one is leading the league in blocks and the other in steals, however, there are scenarios in the regular season and especially in the postseason, that neither would be able to be on the court.
Led by Green, the Warriors have been the No. 1 overall defense so far this year. They lead the league in defensive rating (101.9), opponent points per game (100.9), and opponents’ field goal percentage (42.5%).
As long as Draymond continues to be the best defensive player on the best defensive team in the league, he has a great chance to bring home the hardware.
