Klay Thompson and Golden State Warriors to hit NBA reality
It may have been the highlight of the Golden State Warriors season to date, but Klay Thompson’s long-awaited return will quickly become a venture into the reality of an NBA season.
Thompson’s season debut against the Cleveland Cavaliers was far from a cakewalk, especially against a defense, which with the inclusion of rookie big man Evan Mobley, has become one of the best in the league.
In saying that, Thompson was afforded the luxury of exploring his individual game after two and a half seasons on the sidelines. While his aggressiveness was a positive from both a physical and mental standpoint, it’s unlikely we’ll see a repeat of the 18 field goal attempts in under 20 minutes.
That was evident in his second game against the Memphis Grizzlies, where he took 13 shots as he faces the challenges of inconsistent gametime on a heavy minutes restriction
Currently on a four-game road trip, Klay Thompson and the Golden State Warriors will have quickly turned their attention to the challenges that NBA basketball provides.
Thompson and the Warriors fell to Memphis 116-108 on Tuesday, with that hardfought matchup followed by a back-to-back against the reigning NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks, and the Eastern Conference’s No. 1 seed, the Chicago Bulls.
It ends with a clash against the Minnesota Timberwolves, no walkover given they’ve won four of five and are right in the playoff picture. To make matters even more difficult, Draymond Green remains out and will likely miss the entire road trip due to his lingering calf issue.
Thompson’s return helps alleviate such issues, and there’s still joy simply watching him take the floor on a repeated basis. But unlike his return against the Cavaliers, focus will return to the team perspective first and foremost.
Thompson himself wouldn’t have it any other way, he’s been vocal throughout the season on his desire to win an NBA championship.
What better way to prove himself, and his contribution to winning, than this tough road trip against quality opposition.
