Warriors: 3 Reasons to rally behind Jonathan Kuminga
By Tony Pesta
2. Jonathan Kuminga is a versatile defender
That otherworldly athleticism can be used for more than just flying to the rim for dunks. Jonathan Kuminga has all the makings of an elite, All-NBA caliber defender.
Look at the Golden State Warriors’ depth chart and you can see a flurry of skilled wing defenders who Kuminga can model himself after. The quick-hands of Andre Iguodala, the length of Andrew Wiggins and the sheer hustle of Juan Toscano-Anderson.
With Draymond Green at the top of it all, Kuminga has no excuses when it comes to developing on the defensive end. All of the tools are there, he just needs to be willing to learn.
Thus far, Kuminga has shown promise. He’s risen up above the rim to ferociously block shots, an indicator that he can be a useful help-defender. Kuminga also has relatively quick hands, typically swiping at least one steal a game when he plays enough minutes.
The sky is the limit for Kuminga on defense. He can do it all, from picking up opposing ball handlers, to using his size to disrupt opponents on the drive. The Warriors have themselves a jack of all trades in development.
