1. Jonathan Kuminga fits their long-term needs

The Golden State Warriors are in win-now mode but that does not mean they haven’t been keeping their future in mind. Jonathan Kuminga’s current skill set is not as important as his long-term contributions.

There was never a need for Kuminga to be a Rookie of the Year contender because the Warriors are hoping he will blossom into a future franchise player. Along with other young players like Jordan Poole,  Moses Moody and James Wiseman — the Dubs believe Kuminga can lead the next generation.

The current Warriors’ core is entering the back half of their primes. Stephen Curry will be 34 in March,  while Klay Thompson and Draymond Green both turn 32 in the next few months.

As for the vets, Andre Iguodala becomes 38 years old later this month. Nemanja Bjelica is 33 while Otto Porter Jr. is approaching 30.

It feels like the Warriors have plenty of time to compete for championships while Kuminga is still in development. But, that window is closing, there is no doubt about it.

Turning Kuminga into the next big star is the only way Golden State can keep the dynasty alive into the next decade.
