Golden State Warriors: Pros/Cons of selling the young core
By Tony Pesta
Who would the Golden State Warriors target?
With a combined payroll of roughly $12 million dollars, Moody and Wiseman put the Dubs in range of a few sturdy players.
On the lower end of the scale, veteran 3-and-D threats like Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Robert Covington would help them seize their current championship window while Marcus Smart has long been on the Warriors’ radar.
Other potential targets include Myles Turner, who can be acquired by adding Nemanja Bjelica to the deal to match salary. Turner’s rim protection and 3-point shooting are a huge plus for a team like Golden State.
Christian Wood should be the top priority
Christian Wood is perhaps the best player they could target. A floor-spacing big-man with shot-blocking capabilities is everything the Warriors could dream of.
Playing on a rebuilding Houston Rockets squad, Wood is averaging 17.6 points, 10.1 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game on 35.5 percent 3-point shooting. He slots into the Dubs’ lineup perfectly and is only 26 years old.
Considering Houston’s current situation, a package of Moody and Wiseman is the best return they could get for Wood.
