Golden State Warriors: Andrew Wiggins is a lock for All-Star Game
By Tony Pesta
We do not want to jinx anything, but it is looking like Andrew Wiggins is a lock to start in his first All-Star appearance for the Golden State Warriors.
With a comfortable lead in fan votes, Andrew Wiggins appears to be a near-lock to land a starting spot in the All-Star Game for the Golden State Warriors.
As reported by Shams Charania, Wiggins is in the top three for frontcourt players in the Western Conference. A total of 2,664,571 votes have pushed the former No. 1 overall pick firmly into position to start in Cleveland.
Wiggins has built up a more than 300,000 vote lead over Paul George with less than a day remaining for fan votes. Not to mention, PG13 is likely to miss the game anyway due to his ongoing elbow injury.
This leaves a pretty good chance, if not an absolute guarantee, that Wiggins will be starting in his first All-Star Game.
When Wiggins was first traded to Golden State, he was viewed as one of the most disappointing prospects ever. In a matter of two years, he revamped his reputation to be one of the most versatile and consistent 3-and-D threats in the entire league.
Posting 18.5 points per game on above 42 percent shooting from deep and nearly 50 percent shooting overall, Wiggins is without a doubt a crucial piece to the Warriors who have been in a tight race for the best record in the league all season.
Combine this efficiency on offense with the fact that his athleticism and length make him a top-tier wing defender and it is hard to imagine any other small forward has a case over Wiggins this season.
Of course, Stephen Curry is firmly in a position to start, as well. As for Draymond Green, it feels likely he will get an All-Star nod from the coaches and enter the game as a reserve.
This would make it the first season since 2019 that the Warriors had three All-Stars represent them in the game.
