Stephen Curry hit a game-winning buzzer beater for the first time in his career
It’s crazy to think Stephen Curry hasn’t hit a game-winning shot before. While his shots have certainly had a huge impact on the outcome of games, he sealed the deal against the Houston Rockets on Friday night.
By no means was this a must-win game for the Warriors, but after losing to a Pacers squad without most of their starters, Golden State really needed to get their rhythm back against the Western Conference’s worst team.
The Golden State Warriors barely took down the Houston Rockets, and they only managed the victory because of Stephen Curry’s first career buzzer-beater.
The Warriors were down six at the end of the first and took an 11-point deficit into the half. As is typical with the Warriors, they came out electric in the third quarter and managed to even the score heading into the final quarter.
While many at the Chase Center were expecting a blowout, they were instead gifted with the first buzzer-beating game-winning shot of Curry’s career.
With two MVPs to his name and three NBA Championships, it’s almost unthinkable that he doesn’t have a game-winner, especially since he’s widely considered the best shooter of all time. Nonetheless, he crossed that off his to-do list.
Curry ended the game with 22 points and 12 assists. Currently the MVP favorite, Curry is averaging 26.3 points per game.
The most shocking part about Curry’s play so far this season has been his inefficiency, shooting just 42% from the field. He’s also on pace to shoot under 40% from deep for the first time in his career.
Regardless, he’s stepped up when it’s mattered most for Golden State, delivering them a home win on Friday. While many have contributed, Curry and Draymond Green deserve the most credit for the Warriors’ second-best record at 33-13.
While it may have taken him over 800 games to get his first, there’s no denying that Curry will get more opportunities to win the game in the future. He’s too good to not have multiple game-winning shots in his career.
