1) Jonathan Kuminga’s development is ahead of schedule

As a 19-year-old rookie with no college experience and just a handful of G-league games under his belt, the expectations have generally been that Jonathan Kuminga is a piece for the future, not to contribute this season.

However, Kuminga has been earning Kerr’s trust and is progressively having a more positive impact on the game.

Kuminga has shown all the necessary flashes to think that he may one day be a star, but at this point in his development, he is contributing with solid defense, smart cuts to the basket, and a knack for getting to the free-throw line.

In the month of January, Kuminga has averaged 17 minutes per game in which he is scoring 10 points on 48% shooting. During that same stretch, he is also shooting an excellent 39% from three, which could add another threat to spacing the floor for a team that already features several excellent shooters.

While he’s not a star yet, Kuminga has been providing meaningful minutes, proving the experts wrong about how fast he can grow.
