Golden State Warriors trade for T.J. McConnell

If there is one area the Golden State Warriors lack depth in, it is at point guard.

Obviously, the Warriors have two-time MVP, Stephen Curry, as their leader, but behind him, there isn’t a true floor general for the second unit. Right now, the captain of the second unit is third-year score-first guard Jordan Poole.

While Poole has been incredible in his breakout season, the Dubs could certainly use a more defensive-minded player alongside him.

Although Golden State does have Gary Payton II and Damion Lee, neither is necessarily the combination of scoring and grit that McConnell is. The veteran point guard is averaging 8.4 points per game and has shot over 50% from the field for four straight seasons.

In the minutes he’s getting, those averages are impressive, and he’s certainly worth a JTA-type player as the Warriors have immense depth at the four.

McConnell ranks in the top ten in deflections among players that have logged over 500 minutes this season. McConnell is also averaging 8.4 points and 4.8 assists per game this season in his third season with the Pacers.
