Why Robin Lopez is Warriors perfect target: Experience

The Golden State Warriors are going to have ample size when 7-foot big man James Wiseman returns from injury.

It’s not necessarily about being as big as their opponents. Wiseman, who was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, has been sidelined with a meniscus tear that has kept him out of action longer than expected.

Wiseman is making progress, but there should also be concerns about if he can be a contributor for a championship-contending team. Just 20, Wiseman’s experience could cause him to struggles and be ill-prepared.

If he can’t contribute at a high level in the playoffs, the Warriors could be left with just one center, Kevon Looney. As for Lopez, he’s been in the NBA since the 2008-2009 season. While he isn’t necessarily a star, Lopez is averaging 8.2 points per game and shooting over 55% from the field.

Lopez has also played in 7 playoff series and 36 playoff games. Understanding the pace of the game and then, at the same time, having that situation awareness is something that Lopez could bring that Wiseman lacks.
