Golden State Warriors: Pros/Cons of 5 buyout candidates
By Tony Pesta
Golden State Warriors don’t need Dennis Schroder
Dennis Schroder seems to be a popular name on the buyout market because, despite a rough year in Boston, most are assuming he can still be a productive shot creator.
Pros
A former Sixth Man of the Year candidate, Schroder was averaging 14.3 points and 4.3 assists for the Celtics. His uninspired performances aren’t reflected in these respectable averages but it’s a sign that Schroder still has talent — he just isn’t in the right situation.
Schroder is an improved, albeit streaky, shooter who can dart to the rim for crafty finishes. He’s a proven playmaker and a strong defender for his size. The Dubs would potentially have a top-notch sixth man in Schroder if all worked out.
Cons
However, we all know it is far from a guarantee that Schroder would look like his best self in Golden State.
He flamed out in Los Angeles, shooting 25 percent from the floor in their final three games of the 2021 NBA Playoffs. Since then, he has looked uninterested in Boston and appears more concerned with racking up individual stats in order to secure a bigger contract in the offseason.
The Warriors don’t need Schroder, not only because of his questionable mentality but because they already have a sturdy sixth man in Jordan Poole.
