For 4 straight NBA Finals, the Golden State Warriors behind head coach Steve Kerr had to prepare for LeBron James, a player many consider to be the best of all time.

They went 3-1 in those matchups with LeBron’s Cleveland Cavaliers, having lost in that historic 2016 NBA Finals in which the Cavs came back from being down 3-1.

Head coach Steve Kerr is looking forward to the playoffs, and poked fun at his Warriors set to play postseason basketball but not LeBron James’ Lakers.

However, James left Cleveland after the 2017-2018 season, losing to the Warriors who then had Kevin Durant, and has since played with the Los Angeles Lakers. In his first season with the Lakers, James missed the playoffs.

Then, following that season, the Lakers won the NBA Finals, winning that illustrious title in the bubble. Following that year, the Lakers bounced the Warriors in the play-in tournament, sending them off to then play the Grizzlies where they lost and were eliminated.

Now, Los Angeles, after having to deal with injuries to James and Anthony Davis for much of the season, will not be in the postseason. Kerr, used to having to play James, joked about not having to see the King when mentioning the potential flaws of the Poole-Thompson-Curry lineup.

LeBron’s Lakers missing the playoffs wasn’t the most shocking thing in the world. They never truly were healthy and missed key pieces like Kendrick Nunn for the entirety of the season.

They were also the oldest team in the league which certainly didn’t bode well considering the depth issues they consistently had. James did will the Lakers to a few victories and was, at one point, in the MVP debate, but given his health, those odds subsided quickly.

The Lakers should’ve been better than they were, and I’m sure most coaches are thankful that they won’t have to see James in the playoffs.
