The 2021-22 NBA season has left the Golden State Warriors with a ton of mixed feelings. One emerging trend which is just as surprising as it is concerning is the performance of what should be one of the team’s best three-man lineups.

The trio of Jordan Poole, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green sound like a group that could wreak havoc on opponents. A high-powered offensive unit with two elite defensive players in Green and Thompson should be effective, right?

Not just yet.

There is no reason to overreact as it is only a matter of time before these three figure it out — but they have some work to do.

In 151 total minutes played together, the trio has an offensive rating of 101.8 and a defensive rating of 120.9. Overall, their net rating is a brutal minus-19.0.

Compare this to the Dubs’ normal ratings of 111.9 (OFF), 106.7 (DEF) and plus 5.3 (NET).

This is one of the Warriors’ worst three-man lineups, as far as the advanced numbers are concerned.

Draymond Green, Jordan Poole and Klay Thompson have not been the deadly three-man group the Golden State Warriors’ expected.

It is important to remember a few key aspects. For starters, Stephen Curry’s absence has the entire team out of whack. Poole, in particular, is playing a different role than he originally intended to.

With Poole carrying more responsibility at such short notice, it is no wonder the trio has looked out of sorts. After all, this is their first time playing together.

Thompson and Poole have only had a few months to build chemistry. It doesn’t help that much of that time has been spent with Thompson on a minutes restriction and sitting out of back-to-back games.

Of course, Green has been sidelined at unfortunate times, as well. The three are juggling responsibilities and attempting to build chemistry all while ramping up for a playoff run. It’s no surprise they haven’t looked their best when on the floor together.

Regardless, all three have shown bright spots on the individual level. Thompson is finding his groove, Poole is breakout out as a star and Green is getting back into the swing of things after months on the sideline.

These three will figure it out, even if it’s been a bumpy road to start.
