Warriors Showcase Successful Blueprint by Building Through the NBA Draft

In a league that’s becoming more acquainted with “super teams”, the Warriors have a chance to show there is more than just one path to winning an NBA Championship.

Even though they’ve had success in taking the “super team” path, winning back-to-back championships after putting four HOF players together (Steph, Klay, Durant, Draymond), Golden State has a new approach this season.

Four out of the five best players on the Warriors roster were all drafted by the franchise over the last 13 years. Steph was the seventh pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, Klay was selected 11th overall in 2011, Draymond was 35th in 2012, and Jordan Poole was selected 29th in 2019.

Golden State has continued this approach by drafting James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga, and Moses Moody with their lottery picks over the last two seasons, despite them being in a win-now scenario and recommendations that they should flip their picks for a more accomplished player to contribute right away.

If they are able to win this year’s title, other teams may start to regain trust in the process of building through the NBA Draft.
