What would a ring mean for the Golden State Warriors?
Golden State Warriors Wins the Durant Divorce
The departure of Kevin Durant from the Golden State Warriors to the Brooklyn Nets brought controversy alongside it, similar to his initial decision to join the 73-9 team that sent him home in the 2016 NBA Playoffs.
He chose to leave Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Steve Kerr for Kyrie Irving and first-time head coach Steve Nash.
Durant’s time in Brooklyn has been somewhat underwhelming.
The team has yet to make it past the second round of the playoffs and are currently down 3-0 to the Boston Celtics. Since no team in NBA history has been able to overcome a 3-0 deficit, it’s safe to say Durant is bound for yet another early exit in the NBA’s postseason.
Similar to the Brady/Belichick break-up, where most would say Brady got the best of Belichick by winning a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, if the Warriors are able to win this year’s NBA Finals, it proves they won the controversial divorce and Durant made a decision that could have cost him several more championships and an improved all-time status.
Let’s just say a title this season would be a sweet one for the Dubs.
