Warriors lost, but Klay Thompson’s performance should excite fans
The Golden State Warriors didn’t come out on top in Game 4. They’ll move on to preparing for Game 5 that they’ll get back at home. The Chase Center will be rocking as they look to close the series out.
Golden State should be able to close the series out as they ended the year with one of the best home records in the league.
The Warriors lost Game 4, but Klay Thompson pouring in 32 points and 7 triples should give fans greater hope that the Dubs are championship contenders.
The Dubs lost 126-121 Sunday. While their defense struggled and third-year guard Jordan Poole cooled off, there can still be some positive takeaways, and one of them is the play of five-time All-Star Klay Thompson.
Thompson had a rough regular season, not oftentimes finding his rhythm, especially when he didn’t play on the second night of back-to-back games. He missed 40% from three-point range for the first time in his career.
He did put in 41 points in the last regular-season game against the Pelicans which set him up nicely for a successful postseason. Thompson hadn’t necessarily played up to par through the first 3 games although he’s been efficient shooting the ball, shooting above 45% in each game.
Thompson scored 19, 21 and 26 points in the first three rounds. He then scored 32 points in Game 4 and hit 7 triples. It’s not necessarily that Thompson hit the 7 threes, but it’s that he did so while attempting just 11.
One fantastic aspect of Thompson’s game is that the Dubs played far better with him on the court. Golden State outscored the Nuggets by 9 in Thompson’s 31 minutes and eventually lost by 5. What does that tell you about Thompson?
It says that he’s an impactful player and one that Golden State is able to thrive with. Earlier in the regular season, it seemed improbable that Thompson was going to get to this level, but most never lost hope in the superstar guard.
With the Dubs looking for a championship this season, Thompson getting both 31 minutes and scoring 32 points is terrific to see. If they’re going to go the distance, it’s going to be at least somewhat on the back of his contributions.
