Turnovers have always been a concern for the Golden State Warriors but Draymond Green has been their top offender as of late, putting a strain on their efforts to douse a growing fire in Memphis.

The Golden State Warriors need to tighten things up in order to win Game 3 against Memphis, Draymond Green is a top priority.

Green has led the Warriors in assists for two straight seasons and leads them in the playoffs with 6.7 assists per game as their lead playmaker. Dray is only third in turnovers per game among his teammates this postseason — but it’s his last two games that have been most concerning.

In just 17 minutes of playing time, Green coughed up the ball five times in comparison to just six points. His trainwreck first half officially came off the rails when a flagrant 2 foul sent him to the locker room.

Game 2 was not much better. Though Green managed to play 32 minutes, he committed four turnovers and was a minus-10 in a five-point loss for Golden State.

The Warriors have committed 36 turnovers in just two games, with Draymond accounting for a fourth of them in fewer than 50 minutes of on-court action.

Draymond’s totals versus Memphis (Game 1 and 2)

  • Points: 12
  • Assists: 10
  • Turnovers: 9
  • Made field goals: 5

There is no chance the Warriors will take the ball out of Draymond’s hands. Despite his recent flaws, Green is still their best initiator and he knows the Splash Brothers better than anyone else.

Even so, it’s going to take some refocusing from Dray to get the Warriors back into a rhythm. His careless, oftentimes self-inflicted errors are something the Dubs can not afford in a series that appears to be prepped to go the distance.

Golden State has an opportunity to advance to the Western Conference Finals if they can limit mistakes and get back to playing fluid offense. At the core of this will be Draymond, who simply needs to be better.
