5 keys to the Warriors-Grizzlies Game 4 matchup
2. Rebounding
With the Warriors playing small this series, one would expect them to get hammered on the boards. However, curiously enough, quite the contrary has played out. The Warriors have been the ones creating second-chance opportunities by crashing the boards.
The Warriors’ 47.3 rebounds per game have outpaced the Grizzlies’ 41.7.
Much of this newfound gold for the Dubs can be attributed to one man: Andrew Wiggins. Wiggins has accepted the challenge of playing the small-ball 4 (even the 5 in select minutes) and is incredibly snatching 6.7 rebounds per game, up from his season average of 4.5.
Otto Porter has also been huge during his run, gobbling up 7 rebounds in his 23 minutes per game. And, of course, Draymond Green has been doing his usual dirty work and adding another 6.3 rebounds of his own. It’s been a true group effort.
The Dubs had been plagued by rebounding problems with their small-ball lineups, but something about the playoff atmosphere has given them the rebounding edge against a team that has the obvious size advantage on paper.
So, for game 4, can the Warriors can continue to clean up the glass or will they regress to the mean?
