Alex Caruso can bolster Golden State Warriors’ defense
It was a devastating blow for the Golden State Warriors to lose Gary Payton II for the postseason. GP2 had served as a dynamic backcourt defender who could apply timely pressure on opposing ball handlers and convert high-quality looks on offense.
Following this same mold, Alex Caruso would be an incredible tool for the Warriors.
Caruso does much of the same things as Payton, though he’s two years younger and has more experience as a rotational player racking up minutes on competitive teams. Caruso was a key component to Chicago’s early success this season.
The Warriors should look to keep Payton this summer — but if they can’t — Caruso is a more than capable replacement. Even having both could be useful as the Warriors would secure one of the strongest guard rotations in the NBA.
With Chicago on the brink of another rebuild as Zach LaVine’s free agency looms over the franchise, Caruso could be a target for the Warriors.
