Bob Myers Deserves His Flowers

Warriors’ General Manager Bob Myers can sometimes lack the recognition that he deserves, with the likes of Stephen Curry and Steve Kerr on the roster. However, Myers is the one who makes all of the behind-the-scenes moves for this Warriors franchise and deserves credit for Golden State’s continued success.

Andrew Wiggins has emerged as an NBA All-Star this season and according to Steve Kerr in a media session on Monday, trading for the two-way forward has been the key to everything they’ve accomplished recently.

Wiggins is averaging 20 points and seven rebounds per game so far in the Western Conference Finals, but it has been his relentlessness on the defensive end that deserves mentioning.

He has been able to make things difficult on All-Star guard Luka Doncic, holding him to only 20 points and more turnovers (7) than field goals made (6) in game 1 of the series.

Bob Myers and the Golden State front office received a great amount of backlash when they initially traded for Wiggins back in February of 2020.

They received D’Angelo Russell in part of the sign and trade with Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets. Due to the team’s abundance of guards and Russell’s lack of fit in Kerr’s system, he was flipped for the All-Star forward and two future draft picks. One of those turned out to be rookie forward Jonathan Kuminga.

Myers also deserves credit for his win now and later mindset, which has also been met with controversy. He has paired the three future Hall of Famers with a mix of veterans and promising young talents, such as Otto Porter, Gary Payton II, Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, Jordan Poole, and James Wiseman.

Poole, Kuminga, and Moody have all contributed to the Warriors’ success in this year’s playoff run and the veterans like Porter and Payton II have given them the depth that is required on a championship-contending team, despite their recent injuries.
