Gary Payton II’s status – Prepped for a comeback

The Golden State Warriors have come to rely on Gary Payton II for his energetic, timely plays on both ends of the floor. He’s become a thorn in the side of every team the Dubs face, taking after his Hall of Fame father by placing the clamps on opposing ball handlers.

Payton has been more than an elite defender, though.

The Dubs can count on Payton to do all of the little things on offense. He’s a smart cutter with springs in his steps that allow him to crash for offensive rebounds or catch lob passes on the back end.

Payton has not played since Game 2 of the second round when a flagrant foul resulted in a fractured elbow for GP2.

According to Shams Charania, Payton is expected to return for the 2022 NBA Finals. A remarkable comeback for one of the league’s most surprising players this year.
