The Golden State Warriors lost defensive specialist coach Mike Brown to the Sacramento Kings and need to find somebody to fill in his absence

Mike Brown was largely responsible for the elite defense the Warriors ran over the past decade, designing the defensive schemes for head coach Steve Kerr.

Brown also won Coach of the Year with the Cleveland Cavaliers who had one of the best defenses in the NBA… and LeBron James.

He is definitely going to be difficult to replace but not impossible. There are already a couple of names that seem interesting.

One choice would be former Lakers head coach Frank Vogel. A coach with championship experience that primarily focuses on defense.

Vogel was fired this year via Twitter after the injury-riddled Lakers failed to live up to expectations set before the season with a trade for Russell Westbrook.

He has a similar coaching style to Brown and has plenty of experience around the league including a championship as recently as 2020.

Another option is a player I have purposefully excluded up to this point as he mostly rode the bench and was injured more often than not this season, Andre Iguodala.

The Warriors are no strangers to hiring former players to roles within the franchise. They have brought in Leandro Barbosa, Shaun Livingston, and Zaza Pachulia to various roles within the franchise after they retired.

Iguodala has been a defensive force his entire career and could be seen on the sideline coaching up Andrew Wiggins at various points throughout the season, helping him to reach his full defensive potential.

He would likely emphasize ball movement and be in charge of creating the defensive schemes just as coach Brown was.

This would also be a great pr move as the 2015 Finals MVP has been a fan favorite since he signed in Golden State back in 2013.

These moves are the best-case scenario for the Golden State Warriors, which is why there were multiple choices provided as back-ups in case they cannot happen. However, if they can pull off the top options listed here, they may just be able to bring home back-to-back championships.
