Potential Golden State Warriors free agent signee: JaVale McGee
One name the Warriors should consider bringing back is JaVale McGee. Now, McGee really only makes sense if Wiseman is set to take over. While the first and third options could still play heavy minutes, those days are past McGee.
What McGee does offer could be paramount to the Warriors’ success though. As was the case with Looney, getting a center that’s handcrafted into Golden State’s system is just as important as their on-court skill.
McGee has been there. He was on the roster, although played for under 10 minutes per game, when the Warriors won both their 2017 and 2018 NBA Championships. This past season, McGee played in 74 games as Deandre Ayton’s backup in Phoenix.
The Suns did finish atop the West, so McGee’s impact was felt. He averaged 9.2 points and 6.7 rebounds, shooting 63% from the field in just under 18 minutes. At 34, McGee showed a spark that the Warriors could use to justify bringing him back this offseason.
While it may not be the addition the fans crave, it would make sense.
