It’s been an interesting past several seasons for Warriors‘ starting center Kevon Looney.

Looney has been one of the Dubs’ few players on more than a minimum-value contract. They’ve had to go that route with many players as they have four max-level contracts and already setting luxury tax records.

The Golden State Warriors will have three key players hitting the free agency market, and Kevon Looney may be the most vital to team success.

Where does Looney stand as he’s entering free agency though? The former first-round pick should have some bargaining power after he showed a vital skill set throughout the postseason, but it’s unlikely he heads elsewhere.

Looney was instrumental in the Warriors series-clinching game against Memphis, hauling down 22 rebounds. He also was an ironman this season which isn’t something often said of the big man, starting 80 games.

He played in all 82, averaging 6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, 2.5 of which were on the offensive glass. Looney shot 57% from the field. They want him back, and it’s likely he re-signs with Golden State.

Let’s dive into three reasons why that’s the case as the free agency period is set to open up in just a few days.
