Warriors should be able to re-sign Looney because of: Loyalty

The only NBA team Looney has known is the Warriors, and it doesn’t seem like he’s rushing to get out of Golden State. Out of UCLA, Looney was the No. 30 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. He didn’t average over ten minutes per game until his third season in the league.

The 6-foot-9 center has been a key piece in three championship runs. Looney has done just about everything for the Warriors, especially as he doesn’t have many plays drawn for him on the offensive end.

He knows his role, and he understands what his skill set brings to the team. Looney sets high-level screens and attacks the glass. He’s unselfish, and it seems likely that he takes some kind of cut to stay in the Bay Area.

Looney’s loyalty seems more in his personality as he was willing to be benched without issue and then also re-join the lineup and heavily contribute, eventually being a focal part of the Warriors’ success.

It’s also been reported that Looney is unlikely to be pried away from Golden State. He’s clearly loyal to Golden State, and that’s a huge reason why he’ll likely to stay and figure out the details of his next contract.
