What Donte DiVincenzo brings to Golden State Warriors
By Tony Pesta
The Golden State Warriors have alleviated some of their free agency losses with a major win in the form of a two-year, $9.3 million dollar deal for Donte DiVincenzo.
It has been a busy two days for the Dubs. Though they lost both Otto Porter Jr. and Gary Payton II to separate teams, they did manage to retain Kevon Looney and have padded their depth by signing DiVincenzo.
Donte DiVincenzo has agreed to a two-year deal with the Golden State Warriors. Here is a breakdown of how this move helps the Dubs.
A 25-year-old wing, DiVincenzo has played with the Milwaukee Bucks and Sacramento Kings. He won a championship in 2021 — though he was on the sideline for the entire postseason with an injury.
Prior to this injury, DiVincenzo was averaging 10.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists on 37.9% shooting from the 3-point line.
He quickly emerged as a 3-and-D threat for Milwaukee, playing big minutes and getting the job done on both ends of the floor.
His role will be the same in Golden State. With Porter and Payton gone, a massive gap has been left in the rotation. Notably, the Dubs need perimeter defense and 3-point shooting… two things DiVincenzo happens to be good at.
Two years younger than Andrew Wiggins, DiVincenzo is in the sweet spot of the Warriors’ two timelines. He’s old enough to play valuable minutes next to the main stars but he is still youthful enough to blend with developing prospects like Jordan Poole, Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody and James Wiseman.
This move seems to be one of the best available options for Golden State, who are operating under a tight financial situation.
The addition of DiVincenzo helps the Warriors fill a much-needed void in their rotation and gives them another versatile wing to toss into any lineup they see fit.
