Good news for fans of the Golden State Warriors, James Wiseman is on track to compete in the 2022 NBA Las Vegas Summer League.
Wiseman has played just 20 minutes of basketball since last April, scoring 19 points in his G-League debut earlier in 2022.
This was before another setback caused Wiseman to undergo surgery and miss the remainder of the NBA season.
Now, after a year of recovery, Wiseman is set to take a huge step forward. The young center is set to make his debut at some point in the summer league.
*Edit, this story incorrectly stated Wiseman would debut in the Warriors’ first game. It is unclear exactly which game he will return
Barring any last-second changes, the Golden State Warriors can look forward to James Wiseman’s first Summer League game this July.
This serves as an opportunity for Wiseman to get his feet wet against other NBA-level prospects. It has been a rough two years full of injuries and global hysteria that has restricted Wiseman from getting a usual introduction to the big leagues.
Perhaps easing himself back into the fray against Summer League competition can give him some confidence. Getting some reps under his belt will be useful as he officially joins the defending champs later in the year.
Wiseman has the potential to be a key asset to the Warriors. With his size and athleticism, it is only a matter of experience and attention to detail that is holding him back. A little bit of hard work over the summer could go a long way for the former No. 2 overall pick.
While the other top three picks of the 2020 NBA Draft, LaMelo Ball and Anthony Edwards, are already knocking on the door of stardom. Wiseman is still on square one. There is no shame in this and taking care of business in Las Vegas will help him take a much-needed step in the right direction.
