The Golden State Warriors have become known as a place for lost toys to become whole again. Mac McClung can be another diamond in the rough uncovered by the Warriors’ phenomenal development staff.

A former viral sensation, McClung is now looking to take the step from “high flying dunker” to true NBA-caliber talent.

He played three seasons in college, two with Georgetown and one in Texas Tech before going undrafted in 2021 and becoming a two-way player for both the Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls throughout the year.

McClung averaged 21.6 points, 7.6 assists and 6.6 rebounds in 27 G-League games last year. He only appeared in two NBA games, one for Los Angeles and another for the Chicago Bulls

Now, joining the Warriors for Summer League, a chance for McClung to shine has emerged.

Mac McClung has the opportunity of a lifetime with the Golden State Warriors. How he performs in Summer League will be crucial.

The Dubs have already established themselves as one of the best franchises in the league for developing prospects to hit their stride. Recent examples include Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins — but countless others, such as the big three themselves, can all be cited.

For McClung, finding a way to claim the backup guard position that has been left void due to Gary Payton II’s departure should be the goal.

Not as much of a defensive hound, McClung is still a pesky defender who averaged 1.0 steals per game in college and 2.0 in the G-League.

Where McClung can separate himself, though, is on offense.

He fits the mold of a microwave scorer who can slash to the rim and drill 3-pointers once he gets it going. Finding consistency will be the key.

A hot performance in Summer League could helo McClung secure a two-way deal with golden State. From there, cracking the rotation and becoming the Warriors’ next secret weapon is something the 23-year-old should strive for.
