Why the Warriors haven’t done enough: They’re trusting often-injured centers
The Warriors have two centers and Draymond Green, who typically plays the five in those small-ball lineups.
While starting center Kevon Looney was able to consistently stay on the court, playing 82 games this past season, he has struggled immensely with availability in the past, playing a combined 81 games in the two seasons combined.
James Wiseman, while healthy now, doesn’t reassure that their frontcourt is going to be consistent with his history of being on the court. The 2020 No. 2 overall pick played a fraction of his rookie season and missed all of last year.
Again, he is healthy, but it’s certainly not a guarantee that he sees 40-plus games. That’s where adding another center is going to be crucial, especially since Porter Jr. and Bjelica are no longer on the roster.
With future Hall of Famers like Dwight Howard still available, the options are there for Golden State. With the key departures, adding more depth in the frontcourt should be something they highly consider doing prior to the end of the offseason.
Overall, the Warriors should be in title contention again next season, but they haven’t done themselves many favors this offseason.
