Golden State Warriors: 3 Trade predictions for 2022 offseason
By Tony Pesta
Prediction: Kevin Durant stays in Brooklyn
While Kyrie Irving might be on his way out, Kevin Durant is probably stuck in Brooklyn.
Always the more volatile of the two, it is no surprise Irving is already looking to change jerseys, although the reporting behind this situation has been confusing, to say the least.
Nonetheless, there are two reasons why KD is going to stay in Brooklyn if you ask me.
First, he doesn’t have a choice. He’s on contract for the next four years and Durant does not strike me as the type of player to threaten sitting out for an entire season — he is too much of a basketball junkie.
Second, the Nets simply do not have to trade him. It’s hard to imagine Brooklyn will punt on both Irving and Durant in the same offseason when no one is forcing their hand.
The Nets will have to retool the roster around Durant and Ben Simmons, hopefully gaining some depth from an Irving trade and working across the next two summers to pad the rest of the rotation.
If I am betting, I’d predict KD is a Brooklyn Net next season.
