3 Reasons Golden State Warriors needed JaMychal Green
By Tony Pesta
JaMychal Green was a great, cheap option
The Golden State Warriors have a clear gap in their rotation and luckily for them, the free agency market was still full of floor-spacers who have not found a home yet.
Carmelo Anthony jumps off the page as an experienced vet who should still be hungry for a championship. Melo shot 37.5% from the 3-point line — but his defense leaves much to be desired.
Another option was Markieff Morris, a member of the title-winning 2020 Los Angeles Lakers. Morris shot 42.0% during that championship run and can provide perimeter defense, as well.
Other names like Serge Ibaka, Aron Baynes, Paul Milsap and Rodney Hood were all worth taking a look at for Golden State.
Yet, none of them bring the two-way play of Green.
While Green had a down-year from deep in his most recent season, he’s fresh off a four-year stretch of shooting 38.5% from the 3-point line. He’s also younger and more agile than most of the other options that were available.
For the Warriors, Green was likely the best player they could have signed at this point in the summer.
