Why JaMychal Green was a perfect signing for Warriors: Size and contract

Green will more than likely be on the veteran’s minimum, and that’s perfect for Golden State. They didn’t have much money to spend already being so deep in the salary cap, and they needed a player that was going to give them competent minutes off the bench.

Also, the Warriors needed size, almost more than anything else.

Yes, James Wiseman will be available this season, but the 7-foot center had significant fouling issues his first season in the NBA. While Kevon Looney will start, he played just 81 games in the two seasons prior to last.

Green stands 6-foot-8 and will be the perfect small-ball stretch four.

Undrafted to commence his career, Green will slot into the Porter Jr. role and be asked to be a frequent rebounder. Green has a career 15.4% total rebounding rate which is greater than Porter Jr.’s last season which sat at 14.2%.

Getting into the mix and rebounding shouldn’t be anything new for the veteran. Green provides that size at a cheap rate which was exactly what Golden State needed.
