3 position battles to eye for Golden State Warriors this upcoming season
Warriors position battle: Donte DiVencenzo vs. Moses Moody
Who plays behind Klay Thompson? Both Moody and DiVencenzo are going to get minutes this season.
Moody had an impressive rookie season but wasn’t in the playoff rotation as the Dubs opted for Payton II to get the bulk of the minutes behind Thompson. However, with his rookie season under the belt, Moody should be able to contend for those in high-profile games.
He was the Summer League’s leading scorer, averaging 27.5 points per game in the two he played. Moody averaged 4.4 points per game and shot 44% from the field. He’s a solid defender as well. He brings size and defense, but DiVencenzo is the better offensive option.
DiVencenzo averaged 9 points per game last season and shot 34% from deep, a career 35% three-point shooter. DiVencenzo will likely get the backup two minutes to start with Moody getting spotty minutes between the backup two and three.
As noted with Wiseman, the ceiling is higher for the players that haven’t fully developed their skills. That’s true with Moody, and he could be getting the bulk of backup two/three minutes near the end of the season.
It’s a battle worth keeping an eye on.
