Warriors position battle: Jonathan Kuminga vs. JaMychal Green

Another battle that could find some legs in training camp is Jonathan Kuminga vs. JaMychal Green.

Kuminga had a less than desirable summer league, but the high ceiling for the young forward is certainly still there. He was a bright spot for the Warriors last season, averaging 9.3 points per game and shooting 51% from the field.

He played 63% of his minutes at the four and 24% at the five. I expect Kuminga and Green to have the same stretch-four role, serving as a primary rebounder for their unit. Kuminga averaged 3.3 rebounds and shot 34% from deep last season.

As for the team’s recent addition, Green is a career 37% three-point shooter.

Originally undrafted, Green has gone to the postseason seven times in eight seasons, so the experience is an edge he’ll have. Green also has a career average of 5.7 rebounds per game and has a higher rebounding percentage than Kuminga.

The veteran may be the better option if that’s the goal. Green can bring the shooter while Kuminga brings the athleticism. It’ll be interesting which head coach Steve Kerr goes with more often.
