Many can only wish of one day lifting an NBA championship. Yet, for Golden State Warriors youngster Jonathan Kuminga, that aspiration has been ticked by his teenage years.

Sure, Kuminga was an on-looker for almost every minute of the NBA Finals, but one suspects if the Warriors are to get there again, he’ll need to become a decisive part of this ambitious Warriors cycle.

Jonathan Kuminga achieved a dream goal in his first season and now, with the overwhelming talent, it’s time for him to help usher a new generation of Warriors basketball.

Kuminga’s rookie season was blessed with plenty of good…and some bad. That’s the kind of player he is. Whatever you may think of his future potential and where he’ll get to, there’s no denying that in some way, shape or form, he’s an impactful player in either direction.

The number seven overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft, Kuminga averaged 9.3 points and 3.3 rebounds in 16.4 minutes per game last season. His physical tools, playstyle, and team situation had head coach Steve Kerr comparing Kuminga to a former Finals MVP.

"“I think that’s a good comp, in regards to size and strength. I’ve watched a lot of Kawhi his rookie year and look back at San Antonio’s circumstances then. Kawhi was working with Manu (Ginobili), (Tim Duncan) and Tony Parker so he was a fourth or fifth option. I think he played 24 minutes a night, scored 10 points and played defense and that was the foundation of what he’s become. So it’s a good comp.”"

The 19-year-old is unlike any other player the Warriors possess, making him an exciting difference-maker while simultaneously raising questions about his cohesion within the Warriors’ natural style.

His verticality and ability above the rim are jaw-dropping, combined with a physical presence that belies his age. In a team boasting some incredible offensive players, Kuminga isn’t afraid of overshadowing some of his more reputable teammates.
