The defending champs are at the top of the NBA’s power rankings. Will any other team be able to pass the Golden State Warriors this season?

Zach Harper of The Athletic ranked all 30 teams here and listed just five teams as contenders.

  • Milwaukee Bucks
  • Miami Heat
  • Phoenix Suns
  • Golden State Warriors
  • Boston Celtics

Looking at this group, we have the reigning champs, the runner-up, 2021’s champs, the 2021 runner-up and the Heat, who fell one shot short of reaching the NBA Finals.

A pretty solid tier that is full of teams that wield a championship-winning punch.

While the Warriors managed to reach the top of the mountain last season, can they continue to defend the throne?

The Golden State Warriors are at the top of the NBA food chain. Will this change once the 2022-23 NBA season officially begins?

The Dubs have taken their fair share of losses this summer. Losing Otto Porter, Gary Payton, Nemanja Bjelica, Damion Lee and Juan Toscano-Anderson will not go unnoticed.

Sure, they replaced this bunch with two capable backups in Donte DiVincenzo and JaMychal Green. As well as the eventual return of James Wiseman.

Despite their best efforts, though, Golden State took some major hits in the offseason and it will not be easy to fill those gaps.

Meanwhile, other teams have gotten better.

The Celtics added Danilo Gallinari and Malcolm Brogdon, addressing two of their biggest weaknesses last year.

Milwaukee hasn’t changed much but they will have Khris Middleton back in the fold after an injury derailed their last postseason run.

One team that has not been mentioned is the LA Clippers, who are expected to have both Paul George and Kawhi Leonard available next season to go along with John Wall, Luke Kennard, Robert Covington and Reggie Jackson.

The Warriors had to overcome some incredible odds last season and though they enter this year as favorites for a change, they will still have their hands full as the NBA’s talent pool keeps increasing.
