If the Golden State Warriors make a blockbuster trade, Ben Simmons, not Kevin Durant, is their most logical target.

We are at the point in the NBA offseason where things have cooled down and fans are desperate for any rumors that they can sniff out.

While the Warriors remain primed for a league-altering trade, in theory, there is no real traction being reported of an actual blockbuster deal in the works.

It’s possible this will change once the season begins and teams look to make changes at the deadline.

For the Warriors, Simmons should be the star on their mind

The Golden State Warriors should target Ben Simmons if they choose to target anybody during the 2022-23 NBA season.

Golden State has to figure out a way to either keep Andrew Wiggins, Jordan Poole and Draymond Green long-term or a trade to ensure they do not lose any of these quality talents for nothing in free agency.

If it comes down to a trade, swapping for Simmons is their best move.

Simmons is a dream fit in Golden State. He’s essentially Draymond Green 2.0, with more of an offensive punch and fresh legs on defense. Though he lacks the leadership skills, Simmons is about as close to a Dray replacement as you are gonna get.

It helps that Simmons is only 26 years old. He’s the perfect age to pair with the Dubs’ existing stars and young prospects.

Since it has been over a year since Simmons played NBA basketball, the Dubs naturally have some questions. Will he overcome the physical and mental meltdown he had in the 2021 Playoffs?

The Warriors will be able to watch how Simmons performs to start the season. This sample size should give them enough information to determine if a trade is really worth it or not.

On paper, it’s the best option. But only time will tell if the deal is available or one the Warriors will truly consider.
