First-round pick Baldwin Jr. will be better than: David Roddy

David Roddy is among the two players we’ll talk about that was drafted before Baldwin Jr. Roddy played a terrific career at Colorado State, but he’s far from the most athletic and doesn’t have the size to play above the rim.

Roddy, who stands 6-foot-5, averaged 19.2 points per game in his third and final season with the Rams. He started in 31 games.

Roddy averaged 15 points per game during the 2K23 Las Vegas Summer League but shot just 21% from deep. He shot 44% from deep in his last season at Colorado State, but things are going to get more difficult for him in the NBA.

He doesn’t have the quickness or defensive tenacity to keep up with a star like Dillon Brooks. It seems likely the speed of the NBA is quicker than Roddy can play at, which can’t be said of Baldwin Jr.

While Baldwin Jr. is far from as proven of a scorer and shooter, the ceiling is higher, and if he can stay healthy, so his floor should be higher as well.
