3 untouchable Golden State Warriors not named Stephen Curry
Untouchable non-Steph Curry Warriors player: Kevon Looney
The Warriors gave Kevon Looney a three-year deal after a tremendous series against the Houston Rockets in the 2019 playoffs. Looney didn’t play well the first two seasons of his deal, often dealing with injuries.
He played all 82 games last season but played in just 81 games the prior two years combined. Looney was the team’s 2015 first-round pick. He had the best season of his career last season and was a focal part of the Warriors’ postseasons plans.
He averaged 6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. He took that success into the playoffs, averaging 5.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, shooting 66% from the field.
Looney had four games in which he totaled at least 6 offensive boards and had a massive 22-rebound game to help close out Memphis. He was given a new 3-year deal following that, and his value should be great to Golden State than most.
The Dubs should want Looney to mentor third-year center James Wiseman as well. What Looney gives can be replaced but not easily and not at his cost.
