The Golden State Warriors are bracing for a financial storm. One thing they must consider is that letting go of Draymond Green could cause Stephen Curry to think twice about his future with the franchise.

Is it possible the Golden State Warriors could risk losing both Draymond Green and Stephen Curry if they fail to handle the financial storm on the horizon?

Anthony Slater and Marcus Thompson of The Athletic mention that Curry believes the big three to be a package deal. Meaning, if you want to keep one on the roster, you need to have all three.

Now does that imply Curry would follow Green wherever he goes in free agency? Probably not.

Curry is on contract for another four years and though he would have the power to demand a trade, it would be hard to believe Golden State would decimate this existing core just to give another franchise Curry and Draymond in the same summer.

Thinking broadly, however, Golden State would send a clear message to Curry if they choose not to give Green the money he’s asking for. In the longterm, losing Green could mean losing Curry.

Curry has always seemed like a Warrior for life but there’s still a chance he could spend the twilight years of his NBA career with a new team. Would he ever team up with longtime rival LeBron James? What about a farewell tour in Charlotte?

Perhaps a better question is what will Curry’s twilight years look like? Once his speed and athleticism diminish, will his world-class shooting be enough to keep him at an All-Star level through the final stages of his career?

The same goes for Green, though, he doesn’t have the same shooting ability to fall back on. It’s more than likely Green’s NBA decline comes rapidly with his age.

Still, would the Warriors really feel comfortable losing Green after all he has brought to the team? One thing is for certain, Curry wouldn’t appreciate it. And that should be enough reason to keep the band together.
